FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: proposed crystalliser has outer surface section whereon cooling grooves (2, 2a, 2b, 2c) are made. The number of grooves per 100 mm of crystalliser shell lateral surface varies from four to ten. Depth and width of said cooling grooves (2, 2a, 2b, 2c) at the center of crystalliser lateral wall (1) is maximum to decrease toward angular zones of lateral walls. Relation between distance between groove centers and groove width varies from 1.2 to 3.0. depth of said grooves makes 3-8 mm at residual wall thickness in the zone of cooling grooves makes, at least, 6 mm.
EFFECT: uniform cooling of billet, reduced strain inside crystalliser walls.
