FIELD: methods for processing digital images, and, in particular, may be used to change dimensions of a digital image.
SUBSTANCE: in accordance to the invention, advance processing of image is performed to remove compression artifacts with losses, if such artifacts are present; for each pair of coordinates of original image, coordinates of sixteen closest neighbors are determined and values of edge direction map elements are computed, which may take on values from one to eight, depending on values of partial derivatives in eight directions; morphological operations are performed over edge direction map; a set of coordinates is computed, in which it is necessary to compute brightness values; for each pair of computed coordinates, one-dimensional interpolation is performed in direction which is determined by value of corresponding element in edge direction map; previous step is repeated for each color component; following image processing is performed to reduce artifacts and improve boundaries.
EFFECT: reduced visible defects of image without increase of computing resources.
