FIELD: polymers and carbon materials.
SUBSTANCE: fibrous polyacrylonitrile is thermally stabilized in air for 1-4 h at 170-290°C to achieve deformation up to 30%. As fibrous material, complex threads, woven and nonwoven articles can be used. Then, material is impregnated with 1-20% solution of urea melt and boron-containing compound at ratio between 1:4 and 4:1 and temperature 20 to 100°C for 0.1 to 40 min. Before impregnation thermally stabilized mixture could be washed with water having alkalinity 4.0-7.0 mg-equ/L and hardness 0.03-0.15 mg-equ/L at 10 to 100°C for 1 to 40 min. Graphitization of thus obtained impregnated and dried fibrous material is carried out at 1800-2800°C for 0.2 to 5 min to achieve deformation of material from -8 to +15%. Resulting fibrous carbon material shows strength up to 4.0 GPa and modulus of elasticity up to 600 GPa.
EFFECT: improved quality of carbon product.
