FIELD: pipeline engineering.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises measuring voltage drop in soil by means of two electrodes, determining the depth of pipeline at the place of measurements, measuring the specific electric resistance of soil above the pipeline, and determining the value of current at the output of two units for cathode protecting, minimum distance from the ground anode to the cathode protecting units, and distance from the site of measurements to the site of connection of the cathode protecting units to the pipeline. The area of the damage is calculated from the formula proposed.
EFFECT: enhanced reliability.
