FIELD: flaw detection methods.

SUBSTANCE: method for determining location and area of defects of hydro-isolation cover and depth of corrosion damage of external surfaces of underground or underwater pipelines includes measurement of polarization potential in 5...10 seconds after polarization is removed, along polarization curve by tops and edges of cone dips, area of damage in hydro-isolating cover and depth of corrosion damage are determined using suggested mathematical formulas.

EFFECT: it is possible to determine location and depth of corrosion damage in external surface of underground cathode-protected pipeline, and also area and location of damage in film isolation.
