FIELD: chemical industry; methods of production of zirconium boride.

SUBSTANCE: the invention is pertaining to the method of production of zirconium boride and may be used in production of the highly rigid heat-resistant materials on the basis of zirconium. The method of production of zirconium boride includes preparation of the mixture of zirconium dioxide, boric acid and carbon, the thermal treatment of the reaction mixture in the interval of the temperatures of 1100-1500°С with production of the crude product, its comminution, stirring and thermal treatment at the temperature of 1600-1850°С with production of the target product. The prepared mixture of zirconium dioxide, boric acid and carbon is kept at the temperature of 250-280°С for no less than 3 hours at the residual pressure of not exceeding 750 Pa, after that the temperature is raised up to the temperature of production of the crude product. At that use zirconium dioxide produced by the thermal decomposing of the atomized water solution of zirconium hydroxynitrate in the airflow heated up to the state of plasma in the high-frequency induction electric discharge. The invention allows to produce the target product with the purity of no less than 99.6 % without correction of the crude product composition.

EFFECT: the invention ensures production of the target product with the purity approaching to hundred percent without correction of the crude product composition.
