FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to low-temperature synthesis of titanium diboride. Method involves preparation of a reaction mixture TiO2-B2O3-C containing titanium dioxide in form of anatase modified with a fluorine anion in the form of an agglomerated composite, heating with provision of carbothermal synthesis of titanium diboride and holding at synthesis temperature. Heating and holding the reaction mixture is carried out first at temperature of 940÷980 °C in oxygen-containing atmosphere for 30÷60 minutes, and then at 1030÷1060 °C in an oxygen-free medium for 120÷180 minutes. Argon or helium can be used as an oxygen-free medium.

EFFECT: obtaining technically pure titanium diboride with output of the end product of 98–99_8 %.
