FIELD: atomic industry; producing pelletized fuel from uranium dioxide for nuclear reactor fuel elements.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes mixing of uranium dioxide powder with plasticizer, compaction of pellets from charge obtained, their sintering, grinding, and drying. Uranium dioxide is obtained by hexafluoride pyrolysis; fusible polymeric compounds are used as plasticizer. Charge obtained upon mixing uranium dioxide with plasticizer is heated to plasticizer melting temperature. Polyethylene glycol is used as plasticizer in amount of up to 3 mass percent.
EFFECT: reduced power requirement, enhanced nuclear and radiation safety, enhanced productivity and yield of fuel pellets.
