FIELD: testing materials.

SUBSTANCE: device comprises housing, dynamometer, pusher, plug, tip with a ball indenter, race, measuring beam, measuring rod, and strain gages that record the loading and depth of indentation of the ball. The depth of indentation is measured with respect to the surface of the specimen through a unmovable race provided with the measuring beam and measuring rod passing through the opening made in the tip and pressed to the top point of the ball indenter.
