FIELD: measuring techniques; device for detecting gamma radiation with an extremely high time resolution.
SUBSTANCE: radiation detecting device consists of crystal of barium chloride (BaCl2) which functions as scintillator and photomultiplier for reception of light from the scintillator. Wavelength of the light emitted by the scintillator lies between 250 nm and 350 nm, and the scintillator is located in a low humid atmosphere. The scintillator can be cooled, and the proposed device can be used to detect gamma radiation.
EFFECT: design of scintillator crystal that has a fluorescence component with high light emission effectiveness, short decay time, wavelength of the emitted light that lies in the visible range of the spectrum; designing of a radiation detector with an excellent time resolution.
