FIELD: medicine; neurology.
SUBSTANCE: serum and liquor are tested for uric acid on the first day of the acute stroke. If serum levels of uric acid are more than 390 mcmol/l, and liquor levels are more than 140 mcmol/l, the unfavorable course (lethal outcome) of stroke is predicted.
EFFECT: reliably predicts stroke outcome in first hours of acute onset.
