FIELD: metallurgy; electric engineering; protection against electromagnetic radiation.

SUBSTANCE: microwave energy absorbing material contains, in %: carbonyl iron 20-60; silicon carbide 60-20; soda-lime glass - the rest. In order to prepare the material, a mixture of initial components is made, pressed in mould, baked by preset mode. Baking and pressing is done in one and the same mould made of graphite. Baking is done in one stage at temperature of not more than 900 °C, with soaking at temperature of 700-900 °C for 10-20 minutes and with simultaneous application of straightening force, which prevents deformation of sintered material, onto baked material. Total baking time in the process of heating, soaking and cooling is 4-6 hours.

EFFECT: prepared material has reduced density and high uniformity of properties with preservation of high absorbing capacity.
