FIELD: physics; electronics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to microwave electronics, specifically to material for absorbing electromagnetic waves and a method of making said material. The material is foamed glass, obtained from reacting silicate glass and carbonaceous foaming agent - silicon carbide, with the following ratio of components, wt %: silicon carbide 1 to 35, silicate glass - the rest. The said composition is given based on quantitative content of said components in the material for absorbing electromagnetic waves. The amount of silicon carbide is taken in excess of 1 to 2 wt % relative its amount in the given mixture, respectively. When heating the mixture, a reducing or oxidising or neutral gas medium is also used.
EFFECT: increased coefficient of absorption, mechanical strength and manufacturability, while retaining low reflection coefficient and high uniformity of absorption properties of the material for absorbing electromagnetic waves.
