FIELD: metallurgy; ferrous.
SUBSTANCE: said utility invention relates to the ferrous metallurgy, in particular, to the method of melting of rail steel in electric arc steel melting furnaces. The method involves feeding metallic stock into the furnace, melting, an oxidation period, steel melting leaving part of metal in the furnace, slag cutoff during tapping, steel tapping into the ladle, adding solid slag-forming mixture and deoxidisers to the ladle during tapping. The oxidation period is carried out until a carbon content in steel of 0.15-0.65%. Lime and calcium carbide are added to the ladle, with a ratio of (0.3-0.5):(0.15-0.80), correspondingly. Manganese alloys are added, in an amount of 1-1.5% of the liquid steel weight so that the manganese content would be 0.7%. Before processing in the ladle furnace, coke is added into the ladle, in an amount of 0.1-0.6% of the liquid steel weight. Argon is blown, at a flow of 15-45 nm3/hr during 20-30 minutes. The method allows to decrease the oxygen and non-metallic impurities content in steel, decrease the ferroalloy consumption, and enhance physical and mechanical properties of the rail steel.
EFFECT: high quality rail steel with enhanced physical and mechanical properties.
