FIELD: construction.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to the sphere of hydraulic engineering immediately dealing with arrangement of fish protection structures as part of water catchment plants intended to prevent young fish being caught at water withdrawal. To prevent young fish being caught inside the water catchment plant the water being withdrawn from the reservoir is conducted through a vertical shaft isolated from the reservoir by a waterproof partition arranged along its perimeter. In the shaft lower part as a result of compressed air injection there is an air bubbling plume generated within the entire area of the shaft cross section. There is also a fish and litter removal current generated, its direction being diametrically opposed to that of the flow of water withdrawn which is further directed through a bottom discharge into the water intake pipe. The fish protection structures of the water catchment plant are equipped with additional vertical shafts, perforated air ducts and fish escape ducts, with the water withdrawn being conducted through a series of sequentially located vertical shafts to be filtered in each of them through an additional fish retaining screen composed of artificial weeds arranged in multiple layers one over another and above the compressed air delivery horizon. After removal of fish fry the water withdrawn is directed from the bottom discharge of the previous shaft to the inlet of the next one, with the fish fry additionally removed from the shafts adjacent to the water intake pipe.
