FIELD: geophysics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to downhole logging and may be used for visual inspecting the walls of a borehole and allows to constantly observe how structural objects are disposed in the borehole with respect to the cardinal points. An apparatus comprising a light source, a TV-camera suspended from a cable and lowered into the borehole, a television image receiver, a system for orienting the borehole walls image with respect to the cardinal points having the form of a hollow cone made of a semitransparent material, in the vertex of which there is a television camera with an angle of view capturing the bottom portion of the cone, and a laser emitter arranged at the wellhead and capable of displacing the laser beam in a plane running through the centre of the cone base. The direction of the laser beam displacement is oriented thereby with respect to the cardinal points.
EFFECT: improving the accuracy of orienting the borehole walls image with respect to the cardinal points.
