FIELD: cooling.
SUBSTANCE: cooling tower consists of open hollow tower (located above water-collecting pool) with the side openings near the base; a sprayer for water to be cooled; and water-catching apparatus. Flow sections of the tower side openings are closed by grounded conductive mesh. Discharge electrodes connected to high voltage power supply source are installed relative to the mesh with a gap at insulators from the tower external side. Additionally to natural wind flows, this cooling tower uses a wind flow of electric wind, formed in the side openings of tower during corona discharge between discharge electrodes and grounded mesh, allowing to increase efficiency of cooling tower operation. Electric charges in droplet medium contribute to enlargement of drops and their gravitational fallout, thus reducing moisture release to atmosphere.
EFFECT: enhancement of efficiency of cooling tower operation and reduction of moisture release from cooling tower to environment.
