FIELD: fibre optics.
SUBSTANCE: method involves heating the optical fibre at a local section, at a certain distance from the optical fibre end, cutting the optical fibre at the said section after its cooling, and machining the obtained fibre end by grinding and polishing. Heating is performed using an electric arc, in three stages. At the first stage, the optical fibre is heated until swelling. At the second stage, the section of the remaining optical fibre adjacent to the swollen part is heated until smooth mating of the swollen part surface with the cylindrical surface of the optical fibre. At the third stage, the whole swollen area obtained is annealed.
EFFECT: development of method of manufacture of optical fibre matching section that is easy to implement in industrial manufacture, eliminates restrictions for optical fibre section length, and prevents fibre material crystallisation at heated section from occurring.
