PROCESS OF MAXIMUM SOIL STRENGTH TESTING AND DEVICE FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF PROCESS Russian patent published in 2008 - IPC G01N3/32

Abstract RU 2328718 C2

FIELD: ground strength properties research.

SUBSTANCE: container is assembled with a tray, sectional ring and retaining band, and placed onto a solid immobile platform, loaded with dampened sample prepared for the test, and an anvil is place onto the container. A slide bar with mobile calibrated load is set on the anvil. The load is lifted repeatedly to the given height and thrown down a given number of times onto the anvil to compact that soil sample layer. After compaction the slide bar with load and anvil is disassembled, next soil layer is put into sectional ring, and all operations repeat till the completion of soil sample compaction. The sample consists of three layers with given number of operation repetitions for equivalent samples with gradually raised humidity. After processing the necessary number of samples a dependency of dry unit weight on the humidity is determined. The dependency diagram provides data for defining maximal dry unit weight and optimal humidity, at which maximal density is achieved. For centralisation and disassembly of the slide bar together with the load and anvil vertical guidelines assembled at a hard base. The load is lifted by a rotating mechanism. The load is lifted and dropped by rotating a bar with the help of ball-screw coupling between the slide bar and load, and a ball lock coupling the bar with the load when the load comes into contact with the anvil, and uncoupling bar and load when the lock interacts with load-raising height restrictor. Interaction of the lock with load-raising height restrictor is also used for switching on fall step counter connected to an electric circuit of rotator mechanism and switching the rotator off when a given number of falls is reached.

EFFECT: lower labour intensity and higher reliability.
