FIELD: scintillation techniques; scintillation detectors.
SUBSTANCE: method involves using zinc oxide or zinc oxide with addition of one group III element: Ga, In or Al (in quantities of 0.05-0.4 mass %) in form of oxides or salts and their subsequent moulding at 1150-1250°C and pressure of 100-200 MPa. The scintillator consists of a working body, in form of a disc, one of the bases of which serves as a window for receiving x-ray or gamma radiation. The other base is joined to the window of a photodetector. The working body is made from transparent ceramic ZnO:Ga or ZnO:ln obtained using the method given above.
EFFECT: attaining a very short fluorescent time and high light output of the scintillator.
