FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention pertains to the method of obtaining xylol vapour using selective methylation toluene, involving reaction of a mixture of reagents, containing toluene, methanol and additional water with a catalyst based on modified oxide of zeolite ZSM-5 in a flow reactor and with reaction time of the mixture of reagents and catalyst less than 1 second. The method is implemented at temperature ranging from 250 to 500°C.
EFFECT: use of the given method limits formation of coke in the catalyst.
