The method of reducing the wear of rails and locomotive wheel flanges includes application of lubricant onto the rail head side face, the said lubricant being composed of oil fuel, mineral oil or a mix of mineral oils and colophony with the following content of components in percentage by weight, i.e., oil fuel content makes 5 to 50%, colophony content varies from 10 to 40%, the content of mineral oil or the mix of mineral oils approximating to 100%.
