FIELD: physics, measurement.

SUBSTANCE: inventions refer to measurement equipment and can be used in various engineering fields. Inventions are aimed at improving accuracy of measurement of effective volumes of pneumatic brake chambers, increasing reliability and reducing laboriousness of their operating conditions evaluation. This technical result is achieved due to the fact that effective volume measurement and leak tests of pneumatic brake chambers are performed with variation in pressure of liquid supplied to working cavity of brake chamber, as well as with measurement of volume of liquid supplied to cavity of brake chamber. Liquid pressure is varied discretely by changing compressed air pressure in operating cylinder both during filling of brake chamber and its emptying, while effective volume of brake chamber is determined by liquid level of measuring cylinder at each registered pressure value within cavity of brake chamber measured with manometer. Leak and operating conditions of pneumatic brake chambers are indicated by static characteristic of brake chamber effective volume relation to liquid pressure within its cavity.

EFFECT: improved accuracy of measurement of effective volumes of pneumatic brake chambers, increased reliability and reduced laboriousness of their operating conditions evaluation.
