FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: method is intended for gauging of edge trimmers featuring knife heads with knives tilted along the edge movement direction. Device has one axially fixed cutter roll and one cutter roll shifted axially by cutter clearance adjustment device, so that first knife head is axially fixed and restrained from rotation on axially fixed cutter roll. Second knife head is set onto the cutter roll moving axially and connected in drive pattern without clearance to the fixed cutter roll, so that knife head ends are positioned in one plane. Cutter clearance adjustment device is set to zero position, from which axially shifting cutter roll can move only in one direction. Second knife head is set by rotation on the cutter roll for both knife heads cutters to take position with 'zero' clearance. Then the second knife head is fixed axially in that position and restrained from rotation on the cutter roll.
EFFECT: improved performance reliability due to manufacturing tolerance compensation.
