FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: tubular mold of square or rectangular section is made with upper funnel -like portion and lower portion. Length of funnel-like portion is 0.6-0.9 of tubular mold. Interior surface of tubular mold can be described with equation a(x,z)=a0+u(z)+2·v(x,z), where a(x,z) is distance between counter sides of interior cavity, x is transverse coordinate in cross section of mold taken from geometrical center of cross section, z is lengthwise coordinate taken from upper edge of tubular mold in direction of work piece drawing, a0 is dimension of side of rectangular section of mold at output of work piece from mold, u(z) is variation in dimension of interior cavity to compensate temperature shrinkage, v(x,z) is surface of inside cavity of funnel-like portion of mold. Function u(z) is determined from equation function v(x,z) is determined from v(x,z)=v0(z)[1-F(x)/F(av/2)].
EFFECT: there is ensured uniform cooling of hardened profile work piece along perimeter, also upgraded quality of surface, reduction of diamond-shape in work-pieces and reduced possibility of brake through, upgraded resistance of copper tubular mold and increased rate of steel casting.
