SUBSTANCE: invention concerns seismic data processing, particularly sea seismic data processing for ghost-wave effect damping, and can be applied in obtaining sea seismic data both in calm and storm. The claimed method of defining vertical component of particle velocity by seismic data registered at receiver in the water bulk involves defining vertical component of particle velocity using operator obtained in equation where ω is pulsatance; k=(ω/α) is wave number; α is P-wave velocity; ρ is density; D2 is differential operator; p is registered fluid pressure; "*" is two-dimensional spatial convolution operator. The method is implemented by respective device.
EFFECT: enhanced processing accuracy for seismic data registered deeper than 0,4 of total sea depth at data registration point.
