SUBSTANCE: method of attenuating ghost waves in seismic data involves the following steps: 1) seismometre cable installation is used to record seismic data on the wave field in fluid medium, where the seismometre cable installation contains one of the following: a configuration of three seismometre cables lying parallel and at a distance within the fraction of the Nyquist wave number; a configuration of three seismometre cables lying vertically over each other; a multi-component seismometre cable containing one or more geophones for detecting particle velocity signals together with a hydrophone for detecting the pressure gradient signal; and a pair of seismometre cables structured into the installation with one towed cable lying under the other; 2) the second order pressure derivative is determined on the cross direction from the recorded seismic data on the wave field; 3) the second order pressure derivative determined on the cross direction and wave equation techniques are used when attenuating ghost waves in seismic data on the wave field.
EFFECT: invention provides a three-dimensional approach when determining required data based on the presumption of spherical wave spreading in fluid medium.
