SUBSTANCE: method for jointly interpolating and deghosting seismic data involves representing actual measurements of a seismic wave field in form of a combination of a seismic wave field component associated with one direction of propagation, and ghost wave operator; receiving first data indicating actual measurements of a seismic wave field; jointly determining interpolated and deghosted components of the seismic wave field based at least in part on the actual measurements and the representation, by processing the first data in a data processing device to obtain second data which indicate interpolation and deghosting of seismic wave field components.
EFFECT: minimising the adverse effect of errors in positioning sources and receivers, enabling restoration of ghost-free data, which represent data that are typical for an ascending wave field.
