FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: at the same time as registration of dynamic deformation, there is registration of the arrival time of an acoustic emission signal at minimum threshold, equal to the minimum noise level, and maximum threshold. From the measured deformation the loading phase is determined, and from the loading phase, each acoustic signal is clustered. The clusterisation target function is determined, and if the number of signals in such a cluster exceeds the given threshold on the number of signals, then that corresponds to presence of a defect, with coordinates equal to the coordinates of the centre of the cluster.
EFFECT: increased operation speed and accuracy of determining coordinates of a defect and reduced number of strain sensors and strain-measuring channels.
