FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention pertains to analytical chemistry and can be used for determining small concentrations of iron (III) in pure salt solutions. The method involves converting iron (III) to a coloured complex compound with ammonium thiocyanate in a weakly acidic medium. 2 ml of a buffer solution with pH 4.8-5.5, 0.23-0.40 ml of a 0.2% solution of a surface active substance, obtained from diluting a 2% Tween-80 solution with water, 0.6-1.0 ml of a 10-2 M solution of ammonium thiocyanate, 0.15-0.25 ml of a 10-3 M ammonium solution and up to 10 ml of water are added to the analysed iron (III) solution, with subsequent heating in a water bath at 80-98°C for 4-6 minutes.
EFFECT: increased sensitivity of analysis.
