THERAPY METHOD FOR INOPERABLE FORMS OF THYROID ANAPLASTIC CARCINOMA Russian patent published in 2009 - IPC A61N5/00 

FIELD: medicine; oncology.

SUBSTANCE: radiotherapy for inoperable forms of thyroid anaplastic carcinoma, unresectable recurrences, and thyroid anaplastic carcinoma metastases in neck lymph nodes, includes primary tumor mass area exposition to fast neutrons. Additionally, unresectable recurrences and thyroid anaplastic carcinoma metastases in neck lymph nodes are exposed. Mixed neutron-photon therapy is applied: fast neutrons of 6.3 MeV mean energy, single focus dose (SFD) being 1.4 to 1.7 Gray, 2 fractions a week; cumulative focus dose (CFD) being 5.6 to 6.8 Gray. 5 to 7 days later, gamma-ray teletherapy is conducted by normal technique with CFD 34 to 42 Gray, total course CFD being 60 to 65 Gray by isoeffect.

EFFECT: increase in therapy efficiency for inoperable forms of thyroid anaplastic carcinoma, due to radiation reactions lowering, reduced damage to normal tissues and critical organs.
