FIELD: agriculture, forest fire.
SUBSTANCE: method of surface forest fire containment involves creating a counterfire belt of burnt forest fuels in front of the fire front and fixing its outer boundary. Forest fuels are burnt by a high-temperature supersonic gas jet which is generated as an axisymmetric or flat one. The counterfire belt boundary is fixed by the low-temperature jet of water which is supplied simultaneously with the high-temperature jet to the external counterfire belt edge in respect to the fire front. Angle ψ between the centre lines of the jets is chosen so that to prevent overlapping of the contact areas between the high- and low temperature jets and the forest fuels surface; in particular ψ≥arccosH/L1-arccosH/L2 where H stands for the average height from the treated surface to the high- and low temperature jet sources, L1, L2 - the range of the high- and low temperature jets respectively.
EFFECT: increasing efficiency and safety of creating a supporting belt for the containment of forest or steppe surface fire.
