FIELD: physics, tests.
SUBSTANCE: method relates to test for durability in the conditions of friction, cavitation, scratching and other surface or subsurface (thermalfatique, frost damage) types of fracture. The proposed method includes moving a counter body on over the material surface and recording acoustic emission. Preliminary, the material specimen is subjected to cyclic loading in the conditions of compression starting from a zero load to cause erosion from the surface. Then, the maximum load of cycles is increased stepwise to provoke acoustic emission after unloading. At every previous stage, specimen weight loss, number of acoustic emission events and its mean activity are determined. The results, thus obtained, allow defining the relationship between wear and acoustic emission activity. The said relationship allows, in its turn, to define the material weight loss in operation proceeding from appropriate acoustic emission parameters on moving the aforesaid counter body on the object surface.
EFFECT: higher accuracy of defining material wear with due allowance for acoustic emission parameters.
