FIELD: information technologies.
SUBSTANCE: subtitles are used at representation of the text information and the pictorial data coded as pixel raster-type image. The size of raster-type images of subtitles can exceed the sizes of video shots so parts are simultaneously mapped only. Raster-type images are the separate stratum imposed on a video, for example, for synchronised video subtitles, animation and navigating menus and consequently contains set of the transparent pixels. The up-to-date adaptation of raster-type coding for HDTV, for example, 1920x1280 pixels on a shot, set by format Blu-Ray Disc Prerecorded, giving the optimised effects of squeezing for these raster-type subtitles, is reached by means of four-stage group coding. Shorter or longer sequences of pixels of preferable colour, for example, transparent, are coded by means of the second or third shortest code word whereas single pixels of separate colour are coded by means of the shortest code words, and sequences of pixels of identical colour use the third or fourth shortest code word.
EFFECT: maintenance of the optimised coding of stratums of subtitles or standard fragments of the image for a video of the high resolution.
