SUBSTANCE: invention is related to the field of oil products quality control and may be used for express-monitoring of compliance with established requirements of fuels and lubricants. According to method sample of oil product is passed through indicator element that changes its colour during chemical interaction with water, and by change of indicator element colour they decide on presence of water in oil product sample, at that sample of oil product of fixed volume, prior to its passage through indicator element, is exposed to coagulation, after coagulation oil product sample is confined on the surface of indicator element with the help of hollow truncated conical element, on which chemical reagent is applied, at that diameter of conical element output opening is selected based on condition of colour spot appearance on chemical reagent of indicator element whenever limit permissible value of water amount is achieved for the fixed volume of specified oil product sample.
