FIELD: heating.
SUBSTANCE: proposed invention deals with fuel cell battery starting and stopping techniques enabling extension of the battery service life. The fuel cell battery operation process includes the fuel cell module heating and cooling and anode and cathode flow fields flushing with gas mixture. In the exemplary situations described a hydrogen-nitrogen gas mixture containing less than 2% of hydrogen is used for flushing individually selected battery modules during the stopping/starting process. In the example quoted the hydrogen-nitrogen gas mixture contains less than 0.1% of hydrogen.
EFFECT: extension of the fuel cell battery service life.
