FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrochemical cells. According to the invention, the electrochemical cell has a liquid anode, containing molten salt and fuel, which has significant content of elementary carbon. Fuel is continuously fed into the anode. When fuel contains elementary carbon or decomposed to carbon through pyrolysis, the reaction C + 2O2- → CO2 + 4e- may take place at the anode. The electrochemical cell has a solid electrolyte, which is zirconium dioxide stabilised with yttrium oxide (YSZ). The electrolyte is connected to a solid cathode, to which an oxidising agent, such as air, is fed. Ions, such as O2-, pass through the electrolyte. If O2- passes through the electrolyte from the anode to the cathode, the following reaction may take place at the cathode: O2 + 4e- → 2O2-. According to the invention, the electrochemical cell preferably operates as a fuel cell, which consumes fuel and generates electrical current.
EFFECT: increased efficiency of operation.
