FIELD: agriculture.

SUBSTANCE: present invention pertains to agricultural engineering and can be used in overhead irrigation of crops on different types of soil. According to the method, on loamy and heavy-loamy soil, with 0.2 mm/min rate of water absorption, irrigation machines are fitted with nozzles with 0.2 l/s water flow rate, which are 2.1 m from the soil surface. On medium-loamy soil, with 0.2-0.5 mm/min absorption rate, nozzles with 0.2 l/s flow rate are used, at 1.3-2.5 m from the soil surface or nozzles with flow rate 0.4 l/s and 0.6 l/s are used on these soil types, at not less than 1.9 m and 2.3 m from the soil surface, respectively. On highly-permeable sandy-loam and sandy soils with absorption rate 0.5-0.8 mm/min, nozzles with flow rate 0.4 l/s and 0.6 l/s are used, at not less than 1.5 m and 1.8 m from the soil surface, respectively, and nozzles with flow rate 0.8 l/s are placed not less than 2.2 m from the soil surface.

EFFECT: prevention of runoff of irrigation water and erosion during irrigation, reduced loss of irrigation water on evaporation and power consumption when irrigating crops with retention of soil fertility and optimum use of head-flow characteristics of the irrigation machine.
