FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to preparation of lump metallurgical raw materials. Particularly it relates to manufacturing of roasted pellets in layerwise aggregations. Method includes pellets drying in two or more sections with bottom-up blowing and top-down pumping of gaseous heat carrier. For limitation and formation and total prevention of condensate carrying out from the layer before the drying start it is implemented preheating of pellet layer in section with direction of movement of heated heat-carrier opposite to existing in the first section of drying area, independent on movement direction of heat-carrier in following sections. Additionally parameters of heat-carrier in a preheating section and its length is determined depending on rate of kiln, layer height, temperature of charging pellets and heat-carrier moisture, providing with changing of machine productivity constant firing unit discharge per mass unit of moisture pellets q, equal to 12-17 kJ/kg.

EFFECT: prevention of pellets softening with moisture and essentially improvement of burnt product quality.
