FIELD: transportation.
SUBSTANCE: ultrasonic vibrations are emitted from running surface of rail using beam opening angle of which provides irradiation of radial transitions from rail web to rail base by ultrasonic vibrations reflected from base bearing surface. Ultrasonic vibrations sequentially reflected by base bearing surface, radial transition from rail web to base, possible defect in base, base blade edge, are received by group of receiving converters, including radiating, located along rail longitudinal axis.
EFFECT: improvement in quality of ultrasonic testing of rail base settled into railway line by means of expanding of rail base tested area, increase in reliability and efficiency of testing while providing its continuity.
