SUBSTANCE: invention relates to continuous steel casting. When steel of different grades is separated after the start of casting, elements percentage in metal is calculated for the intermediate ladle in each time moment based on the formula: [X_1→2]=(100·(Q_[X1] ^IntL+Q_[X2] ^S-TL-Q_[X1] ^cr))/Q^IntL, where [X_1→2] - element percentage in the intermediate ladle after the portion of metal is supplied from the steel-teeming ladle (%), Q_[X1] ^IntL - element weight in the intermediate ladle (t), Q_[X2] ^S-TL - element weight in metal portion from steel-teeming ladle (t), Q_[x1] ^cr - element weight in metal portion from the intermediate ladle (t), Q^IntL - metal weight in the intermediate ladle (t). At the moment, when chemical content of metal being in the intermediate ladle will coincide with the chemical content of metal being in the steel-teeming ladle by all elements, the time of separation, i.e. period from new casting opening till the complete renewal of metal in the intermediate ladle, is defined. The transitional plate slab is identified and cut off. The length of transitional plate slab is defined from the formula: L=v · τ^separ, where L - length of transitional area (m), v - velocity of section stretching (m/min), τ^separ - time of separation, min.

EFFECT: reduced amount of rejected metal as not suitable by chemical content.
