FIELD: physics; measurement.

SUBSTANCE: present invention pertains to hydrometry and melioration applied to determination of water turbidity in natural and artificial reservoirs and waterways. The method involves collection of samples of water from a source for analysis, their preservation and transportation, free-flow, automatic, pressure or vacuum filtering of the water sample through selected ordinary paper, average-filtering ash-free, borosilicate, glass-fibre or other filters, respectively. The filters are weighed on analytical balances with accuracy of up to 0.1 mg before and after filtration. The difference in weight of the weighed particles in the sample is found and the turbidity of water is determined by dividing this mass by the volume of the water sample. The filter is moistened first and then put onto a support until gravitational run-off of liquid drops. Right after filtration, the filter is put onto the support again until gravitational run-off of liquid drops. Weighing the filter before and after filtration is done without drying in a thermostat (drying chamber).

EFFECT: simplification, faster and wider application of analysis.
