FIELD: physics; communications.
SUBSTANCE: proposed here is a method of locating a wireless terminal. According to the method, identifiers of a range of transmitters to be used for location are received first. The expected regions for these transmitters are then determined. The expected region, related to each transmitter, indicates the region in which the terminal is possibly located, given the condition that the terminal receives a signal from the transmitter. Each expected region can contain the location (for instance, the centre of the expected region), to be used as the estimated location of the terminal, and the uncertainty (or estimated error), related to this estimated location. The expected regions for the transmitters are then combined (for instance, based on a weighted average), so as to determine the combined expected region, which is then provided as an estimation of the location of the terminal.
EFFECT: more accurate location.
