FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: reflectometres are used for diagnosing fibre-optic tracts during the manufacture of optic fibres and fibre-optic cables, and laying and exploitation of fibre-optic communication lines. A reflectometre contains a unit for control and processing, one of whose outlets is connected with the inlet of the pulse former, whose outlet is connected with the input of the optical source, optically connected with the inlet of the Y-shaped optical splitter, inlet/outlet which is connected with the outlet of the optical connector of the reflectometre. The second outlet of the Y-shaped splitter is connected with the optical port of the photo sensor, whose outlet is connected through an amplifier with the inlet unit of control and digital processing, whose outlets are connected with the information display unit. An optoelectronic modulator is connected between the output of the Y-shaped optical splitter and photo sensor, and the programmed delayed-pulse oscillator, whose programmed control inlet and the inlet of external triggering are connected with the unit for control and processing. The inlet of the external trigger is simultaneously connected with the inlet of the pulse former, and its outlet is connected with the control input of the optoelectronic modulator.

EFFECT: reducing dead zones during the measurement of the location of non-uniformity along fibre-optic tracts.
