FIELD: physics; nuclear technology.
SUBSTANCE: proposed fuel element is meant for use in fast neutron reactor cores. The fuel element contains two parts joined together in the axial direction. Each part of the fuel element comprises a shell (5) with fuel (7), an end shield (8) and an end piece (4). The shell (5) of low temperature and high temperature parts of the fuel element are made, respectively, from austenic steel and molybdenum alloy. In each of the shells (5) there is an insert (1), made from material of the corresponding shell (5). The inserts (1) are joined together by soldering (6). In special cases for making the fuel element, on both parts of the fuel element there are compensation volumes (3). In at least one compensation volume (3) there is a compensating spring (2). "О6Х16Н15М2Г2ТФР" steel is used as the austenic steel. The molybdenum alloy used is a "ЦМ-10" alloy and the solder (6) used is "ПЖГ-20" solder.
EFFECT: more functional capabilities of the fuel element and increased the level of safety of operation of the nuclear reactor.
