FIELD: nuclear engineering.
SUBSTANCE: proposed nuclear-reactor fuel element has sealed zirconium alloy can, plugs, fuel pile, and gas collector accommodating fuel pile hold-down device made of iron-chromium-nickel alloy in the form of cylindrical spring incorporating hold-down and compensating turns joined by buffer turn. Ratio of fuel-pile height to length of hold-down device section formed by compensating turns is 20 to 45 with ratio of negative allowance between outer diameter of hold-down turns in loose state and inner diameter of can to can wall thickness being 1.2 to 2.
EFFECT: enhanced operating reliability and reduced manufacturing cost of fuel element.
