APPLICATION MODE OF ISOLATED SMALL INTESTINE LOOP AS ARTIFICIAL BIOLOGICAL KIDNEY Russian patent published in 2009 - IPC A61M1/14

Abstract RU 2360705 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: fragment of small intestine is separated. Dialysis fluid is injected into one end of intestinal loop. The dialysis fluid is discharged from the other end of intestinal loop into a dialysis fluid tank. A fragment of small intestine is separated without excision in length not less than 2/3 lengths of the whole small intestine. In the lateral wall of both ends of the separated intestinal loop, two plugs are fixed. It is combined with forming two through holes in the intestine wall. The plugs are delivered and attached to anterior abdominal wall. Dialysis is enabled through the separated fragment of intestine. Two cannulas are inserted into intestine cavity through the plugs. External surface of the inserted ends of the cannulas comprises opening cuffs. The cuffs are used to isolate the separated fragment of intestine from its other part. Through one cannula, dialysis fluid is injected. Through the second cannula, the dialysis fluid is discharged from the peripheral end of the cannula into the into a dialysis fluid tank. When dialysis session is complete, the cannulas are removed from intestine. Both plugs are closed with hermetic stoppers thus restoring intestine patency. In that specific case, the plugs are fastened with nuts.

EFFECT: method allows eliminating dependence of the patient on a medical institution, being available to the wide range of the patients requiring treatment of terminal stage of renal insufficiency, excluding the surgical manipulations associated with excision of small intestine and restoration of intestine patency, keeping its integrity, reducing dialysis length.
