SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the method of reducing content of contaminants in mesotrione, which is used as an herbicide. A solution of mesotrione enolate is prepared in an aqueous solvent; one or several purification stages are carried out, chosen from filtration, adsorption, extraction using an organic solvent and decantation, and mesotrione is crystallised from the solution, obtained at the second stage.
EFFECT: design of a new method of purifying mesotrione.
