SUBSTANCE: invention relates to paper-and-pulp industry, precisely to devices for mechanical treatment of fibrous material. The apparatus for shredding fibrous material includes a body frame with a treating chamber where a rotor mounted on a drive shaft and stator are placed, both rotor and stator have tackles. The apparatus also has inlet and outlet branches, impellers placed on the drive shaft and vanes of which are directed to the inlet branch placed on the level of their arrangement, equipped with a plate closing the vanes from the lateral side directed to the body frame centre and from below, and from the side of their periphery formed an adjustable clearance with the inner surface of the treating chamber. The size of the adjustable clearance is 5/6…3/4 of the length of the vanes, the vanes are inclined to longitudinal vertical centreline plane of the body frame, to perpendicular axis of the inlet branch, in the direction of this axis, under regulated angle φ=5°…20°, and inner side and lower plates form together with side and lower vane tips adjustable clearance of 1/8…1/5 from the length of the vanes.

EFFECT: intensification of beating process when fibrous material is hydrodynamically and mechanically exposed.
