FIELD: information technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to computer engineering and can be used for forming panoramic images from several images, obtained using digital still- and video cameras, with high accuracy due to automatic correction of distortions, arising from radial distortion. For this purpose a contour is selected on overlapping images. Several contours are formed for each image. Several contours which are identical on different images are determined and two calibration contours are then selected, based on a fuzzy logic mathematical apparatus. The centres of gravity of the calibration contours on different images are calculated. The coefficient of radial distortion is calculated, as well as automatic correction of images, arising from radial distortion, rotation and displacement of one image relative the other so as to form a panoramic image.
EFFECT: wider field of use due to use of minimum number of overlapping images, without setting the camera in defined positions, as well as increased accuracy through correction of radial distortion.
